Finding What Works

Screen Shot 2015-09-17 at 4.55.13 PMWhen you’re overweight, you’ll believe anything. At least I did. When I started this journey, I was at my heaviest. I didn’t know where to begin. I sought the help of dieticians, chefs, and nutritionists because I know, eating right is 85% of the battle. But the real battle was fighting against what works for me.

I know I’m not the first person that wanted to believe something would be the magic fix for me, and maybe that’s why I feel so strongly about it. I want people to know that’s it’s hard, but it’s worth it. I dated a girl in college, she was gorgeous, but after she graduated, she wasn’t happy with the weight she gained. One day though, she reached out to me to tell me about this amazing discovery. She had started wearing a midsection wrap and was promised it would skim inches off of her body.

Everyday people are taken advantage of, just like my old friend. But in LA, there’s money to be made by telling aspiring actors how to eat, how to train. I think that you only get out of something what you put into it. And just like with training, I like the old school way.

Right now, I’m working out and burning 3500 calories a day and eating only 1600. You don’t have to buy the books or invest in the diets, but you do have to count calories, I don’t care what anyone says. It’s pure math. So I write everything down. When I make my meals, I use every measuring cup and spoon, I have a scale, and I track what goes into my body. A tomato might be only 3 calories, but it still counts. And everyday I rely on myself to track what I put into my body and on my Garmin to track how many calories I burn. If I do it right, I drop pounds every week.

It took me a long time to find my way, but I want others to believe me. If you hold yourself accountable, you can change your life. Calorie counting might not be the right approach for you… Find your approach and what works for your body and stick to it… Sticking to it is what it will take to make the changes that you want.
